Activities

The City Park covers 10 acres, has free camping hook-ups and picnic areas. The park has facilities for swimming, tennis and sand volleyball. Just eight miles east of Deshler is a nine-hole golf course, bowling lanes and a fitness center. Hunting and fishing are excellent throughout the area. Boating is available at Lovewell Lake only 30 miles away. For information on the Thayer Co. Racing season, please call the Thayer County Events Center at (402) 365-7651.

Local Organizations

Deshler Park and Recreation Board oversees baseball, softball, T-ball, sand volleyball and various other park activities. For more information, call (402) 365-4433.

American Legion and Auxiliary, Izaak Walton League, Lions Club, Vintage Red Hat Ladies, Town and Country Porcelain Guild and Women's Club are a few of the other organizations in Deshler.

 

Skyhawk Field

The local Deshler Skyhawk's RC Club flies their radio controlled model aircraft and model rockets at this site. You must have AMA insurance to fly at this field. Shyhawk Field is located at 615 West Highway 136, or 3/8 mile west of Hwy. 136 / Hwy 5 intersection. For more information call Bob Reinke at (402) 365-4282 or email: rnreinke@gpcom.net .

June 21, 2009 - Fun Fly, starting at 9 AM, Rocket launch at noon.

Rocket Contest - 2 classes 12 and under, over 12 and up.
Best workmanship. Longest in the air. Closest landing to launch pad.
1st $30.00, 2nd $20.00 and 3rd $10.00 for each class in 3 categories.

1. Must be an estes or estes type rocket with estes type engine, D or smaller.
2. Must have one or more working parachute and it must open if rocket is launched.
3. Must go at least 30 feet high for "Closest to launch pad: competition.
4. Must launch off of the cement pad area. Launch rods will be available or use yours.
5. No "lighter than air" devides allowed (example: helium balloon to keep it in the air).
6. No remote controlled rockets.
7. Launch lug on rocket to launch rod at ground level will determine distance.
